Antionia Chitty, Family Friendly Working

J, 4, fights sleep every night. Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying this Relax Kids book as a way to help him wind down and switch off. We’ve been using Relax Kids: The Wishing Star. The book contains 52 one page readings: J calls them "the imagine books" as each begins, ‘Close your eyes, be very still, and imagine…’
Then, the reading takes you and your child on an imaginary journey. You may be reading about a fairytale character, riding a flying carpet or imagining that you are a robot switching off. Each reading has a theme, like ‘I am Quiet’, ‘I am Still’, or ‘I am Free’. It is easy to choose readings that both appeal to J’s imagination and help him wind down.
To start off with, he was worried about ‘imagining’, but within a few days he had got to grips with the way each reading works. He looks eagerly through the pictures and gets involved in choosing which meditation or story we will read each night.
I’d recommend these books for any family that finds that life is just non stop and wants a child-friendly way too wind down.
