Forgiveness Exercise
Here is a simple yet effective exercise to help adults and children feel happy and peaceful.
It is an ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness. The practice is called Ho?oponopono and was done by individuals, families and priests as well as people who were ill.
“Ho?oponopono” means “mental cleansing and Ponopono is defined as “to put to rights; to put in order or shape, correct, revise, adjust, amend, regulate, arrange, rectify, tidy up, make orderly or neat.”
Practicing the prayer aimed to put the past misdemeanors to rights and so allow the reader to feel free and happy. It was traditionally practiced by those with an illness with the belief that any illness was as a result of past
Ho?oponopono also was used to correct, restores and maintain good relationships among family members.
A friend of mine walked into the kitchen where her children had accidently smashed all her glasses. Instead of screaming, she repeated this and actually felt fantastic!
This is a great activity to do with children. It helps with hurt and upset and unhappy moods.
How to practice Ho'oponopono
Sit comfortably and take in a deep breath and breathe out.
Breathe in and breathe out saying 'I’m sorry'
Breathe in and breathe out saying 'Please forgive me'
Breathe in and breathe out saying 'I love you'
Breathe in and breathe out saying 'Thank you'
Keep repeating this for as long as you wish.
If you are short on time, you can just keep repeating the words in your mind as you go about your daily work.
