The Wishing Star

PAGES OF CREATIVITY Written by Marneta Viegas - founder of Relax Kids, the Wishing Star is full of creative visualisations, meditations and relaxations. Children can imagine they are lying in soft grass, sitting in a peaceful cave, watching a beautiful sunset and flying like a bird. The book is full of deep body relaxations, lovely nature inspired visualisations and fantasy story meditations. It is a great way to introduce meditation and mindfulness to young children. The Wishing Star book is a highly imaginative and captivating book that holds children's attention while allowing them to relax. It is an invaluable bedtime and classroom tool. Each relaxation lasts around 4-5 minutes and is perfect to bring rest and calm to the room. The relaxations have been designed to help children relax and destress. This book is designed to engage children while introducing them to relaxation and simple stress-management techniques. Relaxation strategies such as progressive muscle relaxation and visual imagery have been shown to be extremely effective treatment components for reducing stress and anxiety in children. These story meditations are a wonderful way for children to explore learning and mindfulness. Children love to tell stories, role-play stories and teach others what they learn from stories. Research supports that mindful meditation calms the brain, inspires creativity and enhances cognitive and social-emotional skills. Practiced regularly, these exercises can have a profound effect on children’s mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. This book can be used in the classroom to bring quiet and calm before lessons, during assemblies, PSHE classes, after PE and during wet play time. This is a soft back book. This really helps me calm down after a crazy day of lessons. It makes me feel relaxed and comfortable, way better than stressed out and frazzled.

a wonderful gift for an anxious young reader, October 30, 2008 By L. A. Cargill (Greenbrae, CA USA) - See all my reviews My 8-year old has trouble settling down for the night. She says so many thoughts are running through her head, she can`t sleep (even after we read together!) This book has made the task of calming herself so much easier - and she loves it. It was well worth the price.

Lovely images to plant in the young mind of children, a nice way to settle and bring the mind and body to rest whilst working at deeper subconcious levels. I highly recomend this book

I`ve got one of your mediation books and I use it to facilitate teenagers relaxation sessions...love it!

The results were immediate. I began using one or two stories each week with some energetic children from my drama class and the change was immediate: children who were often the most disruptive in class were actually the first to respond, and soon the class began to demonstrate more focus, cooperation and listening skills than ever before! An invaluable bedtime and classroom tool, it`s so adaptable - some of the stories I use just as easily with teens and adults as with 3-year-olds!

I got this for my daughter who was having a very unsettled first year at school. It has helped to calm her down. She likes to read it at anytime, even in the bath. She took it to school and her teacher got a copy of it too. I think the book combined with one of the CD`s is probably best to start with. There is also a DVD with some of the meditations from this book.

J, 4, fights sleep every night. Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying this Relax Kids book as a way to help him wind down and switch off. We’ve been using Relax Kids: The Wishing Star. The book contains 52 one page readings: J calls them "the imagine books" as each begins, ‘Close your eyes, be very still, and imagine…’ Then, the reading takes you and your child on an imaginary journey. You may be reading about a fairytale character, riding a flying carpet or imagining that you are a robot switching off. Each reading has a theme, like ‘I am Quiet’, ‘I am Still’, or ‘I am Free’. It is easy to choose readings that both appeal to J’s imagination and help him wind down. To start off with, he was worried about ‘imagining’, but within a few days he had got to grips with the way each reading works. He looks eagerly through the pictures and gets involved in choosing which meditation or story we will read each night. I’d recommend these books for any family that finds that life is just non stop and wants a child-friendly way too wind down.
